Lines Tutorial - Photoshop & Paint Shop Pro
This tutorial can be used for PS and PSP...
1) This stage is for both programs:
File -> New and make a new image with a transparent background and
with this I'll concentrate on the diagonal lines, use this settings:
Diagonal:
Width: 3 pixels
Height: 3 pixels.
2) Select the pencil tool for PS (Right click the brush tool and select pencil) or the normal paintbrush tool for PSP then select a 1 pixel size brush and make sure the colour is black and make this pattern:

(zoomed in, not actual size)
In PSP -> Click the colour palette and the colour palette screen will come up. Select the
Patten tab, click the pattern then select Current Patten, hit OK. Make a new layer on top of your picture then use the
Flood Fill tool and full the layer, adjust the opacity and if you want, put the blending option onto Overlay to lighten it.
In PS -> When you have the above image, go to Edit ->
Define Pattern,
a new screen should come up then put a name in there then click OK.
Open image you want to put pattern on then make a new layer and call it
pattern. Then go into
Edit -> Fill... select Pattern then
select the custom pattern from the drop down menu, then select OK.
Adjust the opacity of the layer and set it on overlay to make the lines
smoother.
Here's what you get:
